Center for Psychoanalytic Studies offers comprehensive training in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Clinical graduates of the Studies in Psychoanalysis program at the Center qualify for Certification by the American Psychoanalytic Association.

Our Mission
The Center for Psychoanalytic Studies is dedicated to educating clinicians in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy and is committed to providing affordable mental health treatment to individuals in the wider community.
Studies in Psychoanalysis
Four-year comprehensive curriculum with three seminars per week (including psychoanalytic theories and techniques, and integrating contemporary, historical, and developmental perspectives).
Supervised clinical work in psychoanalysis.
Personal psychoanalysis.
Psychoanalytic students may also attend the child seminars on Friday mornings
All classes are currently held in person and on-line.
Studies in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Two-year comprehensive curriculum consisting of three seminars a week covering psychoanalytic theory and technique of psychotherapy. The seminars integrate contemporary, historical and developmental perspectives.
Supervised clinical work in psychoanalytic psychotherapy
All classes are currently held in person and on-line.
Studies in Psychoanalytic Thinking
For trainees interested in understanding the theoretical foundation of psychoanalysis but who do not wish to undertake clinical training
Four-year comprehensive curriculum with three seminars per week covering psychoanalytic theory and technique. Seminars integrate contemporary, historical and developmental perspectives.
All classes are currently held in person and on-line.
Studies in Child Psychoanalysis, Psychoanalytic Thinking and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Three-year comprehensive curriculum covering child and adolescent psychoanalytic theory and technique of psychotherapy. The seminars integrate contemporary, historical and developmental perspectives. The course of study for working with children and their parents is divided into developmental stages: first year: infancy and early childhood, second: middle childhood, and third: adolescence. Weekly one hour and a half seminars for 10 weeks each for three semesters. The first two semesters are clinical curriculum and the third semester is a case conference.
Educational consultation clinical work for two child or adolescent cases with Child and Adolescent faculty members of the Center.
All classes are currently held on-line.
Training
The Center for Psychoanalytic Studies provides advanced training in understanding the complexities of our clients’ motivation and how that complexity keeps them from achieving a successful life. We also provide specific training in the management and use of transference. Our training provides a way of looking at clinical work that is relevant no matter the setting or the theoretical approach.
We welcome applicants from all mental health disciplines who hold a license to practice.

CFPS Alumni Group
Membership is open to graduates of CFPS psychoanalysis and psychotherapy training programs, current candidates and trainees, and faculty members. Other clinicians may attend Alumni Roundtable Discussion Series at a non-member rate.
Roundtable Discussion Series are presented by a CFPS faculty member, alumni or guest presenters. Sessions are scheduled 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM Central Time through video sessions only.
The Center for Psychoanalytic Studies will post psychoanalytic community events.
CFPS Referral Services - Greater Houston Area/Austin/San Antonio/Dallas
CFPS offers referrals for interested individuals (adults, adolescents and children) seeking psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The professionals to whom we refer are trained and licensed mental health professionals from all of the major mental health disciplines (psychiatry, psychology, social work, counseling, and nursing) who have completed, or are pursuing, advanced training in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy at CFPS.
Persons seeking treatment will speak with a CFPS faculty member who will take into consideration the caller's presenting problems, financial circumstances, and any preferences (i.e., clinician's gender or practice location) in order to suggest an appropriate referral. This referral service does not monitor or otherwise participate in the treatment of patients.
